Book is Launched!

The May 31st launch of my newest book Making Opportunity Knock was a great success!

This was the first major event planned for the recently published book. It’s the first volume of “Mining Your Resources”, a self-help, inspirational series.

After working for weeks to develop my presentation, I created and sent out an Evite to my entire network, and also posted an invitation on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin groups. The title of my talk was …

I was SO pleasantly surprised at the turnout.

: People spill into the seats just before the presentation begins.

Chairs needed to be added, so the room was full. Although most of the audience was stacked in my favour with friendly family and friends (notice the alliteration), many others who I did not know came, too.

I was thrilled that Elaine Levinoff agreed to introduce me:

As I stood at the podium, waiting for everyone to settle down, I centered myself, calming myself down.

I thanked everyone, including Elaine, those who helped facilitate the evening, the friend who volunteered to videotape and the friend who took still shots (some of which are posted here), as well as the sponsors of the venue, refreshments, etc..

And then I began the talk:

“Early last year, out of the blue, I was faced with a dilemma I could never, ever, ever in a million years have imagined. It wasn’t within the framework of my thinking. Not on this earth. Not in this universe. And certainly not in MY lifetime …”

The audience listened:

Except for my voice and the audience laughing in the right places, there wasn’t a sound.

Not a cough or sneeze.

After question period, I acknowledged some of the people who contributed to the series. Here’s my beautiful mom.

Roz and Gord Doctorow, both with PhDs in Education, are the long-suffering, supportive parents described by Neil who is featured in Chapter Four of Making Opportunity Knock:

Marla Lukofsky was introduced. She’s featured in a chapter of Reinventing Yourself, volume two which is next in the “Mining Your Resources” series.

Featured in Chapter Three of Making Opportunity Knock, Marci Segal, co-founder of World Creativity and Innovation Week April 15-21, made the closing remarks.

And now, encouraged by the success of the evening, the next step is to connect with book clubs, study groups, Rotary and Lions clubs, women’s auxiliaries, educational and religious institutions, other organizations and businesses(whew!) to present to them as well.
